The U.S. Census Bureau continues to expand the granularity of its race & ethnicity categories such that Uncle Sam now can provide us population data for 104 White groups, 62 Black or African groups & 22 Other race groups (see table below for the largest categories according to 2020 Census data). Are we the only ones who believe that citizens of the U.S.A. should be simply classified as Americans? How many NFL games & Taylor Swift concerts must we watch before we get to tell the U.S. Census that we are just plain, old Americans?
- The U.S. is a melting pot, we get that this is rather unique attribute compared to most other countries.
- However, our strength derives from our unity – this is an especially important point to emphasize as the U.S.A. is particularly vulnerable to our enemies’ efforts to divide & conquer.
- Should we define an “American” by ethnicity? Better to use psychographics to define an American & we suggest the following simple definition: an American is someone who believes in honest, hard work to make a better life for their children. There, now we can save the U.S. Census Bureau a couple of billion at least…
