Summary: Over 100k people died of a drug overdose in 2021 with 2/3’s of deaths involving fentanyl or another synthetic opioid. Not saying that all those who died were men, but the labor participation rate for men has also steadily declined to 68% from a high of 87% in 1949. It is time for the country to accept that there is a crisis among men. Discouragement & despair is driving them out of the workforce and into debilitating drugs. How do we measure the economic impact of this societal ill? It is certainly impacting our country’s productivity and ultimately killing a lot of people.
